Company Profile
Back at the 2003 the goal for the company was clear – Develop and produce all-electric, zero-emission car with incredible power, torque whilst not compromising the range.
The top-management has chosen the route which is in itself is really disruptive – enter the market with the luxury car, that will be expensive (due to lack of experience and economies of scales) and through gaining the experience and “weight” in the market, by introducing new models, gain market share and provide the zero-emission automobile for any kind of the budget.
The first car that has been released to the market was the Tesla Roadster,2008. The car packed some serious characteristics – 3,7 seconds to 60mph, 245 miles range and went for the price tag of $110,000. By the time of publishing, there are around 2,400 Tesla Roadsters on the roads.
In 2012 Tesla has launched their first worlds first premium electric sedan. The first car built from ground up to be 100% purely electric and aimed at redefining the usual sedans that everyone has ever known before. The Model S has room for seven people and more than 64 cubic meters of storage – something, that was previously not seen in the car market. It has achieved the the utility and the comfort of luxury sedans, while still being able to accelerate at the sports car pace (4 sec. to 60 mph) due to 85kWh battery and the addition of 4WD for even more performance and improved handling . There are now more than 60,000 cars on the roads worldwide.
In 2015, Tesla’s vision for an SUV, Model X, has entered intro a serial production stage. Model X packs the best from the Model S but has some unique features like Falcon Wing doors and a lot room that allows for cars utilization in, nearly, any scenario.
By 2020, company plans to roll out a mass market oriented Model 3.
While being able to develop top-notch electric vehicles, the company has managed to bring largest network of Super Chargers in the world, that allows hassle free trips anywhere, CO2 free whilst building gigafactory in Nevada, that will allow to address large demand for electric vehicles in the nearest future.
